The project achieved impressive results. They succeeded in creating a lasting change in Karlstad’s home care model and a new culture based on trust. The number of people who came to a care recipient’s home decreased and contact routes became personal. Sick leave in home care decreased for the staff and interest to work in home care increased. Viktor Gustavsson and Maria Olsson, worked agile with a leadership based on trust, transparency and accessibility, which created a positive, anchored change in the operations. Their leadership focused on creating the conditions for the staff to succeed by daring to give responsibility and trust the employees. They established a culture where it was okay to try, fail, and adjust. At the same time, they supported the managers in “leading without micromanaging” and daring to let go of control.
